"Since *this* Despair is Desire's twin, I wonder if Desire split him/herself to fill the void?"OOH. That's interesting. I like that.

I hate the art in this volume. It's supposed to be the climax of an epic story, and it looks like early 90's clip art. Drives me up the wall.

If World's End really is the bartender telling about Brant's story, then it goes 6 stories deep at the point where Mistress Veltis sees the cerements of the Endless. It's Veltis' story, told by one of the funerary folks, told by Petrefax, told by Br…

I am depressingly far behind. Argh. Posting my comments here now, then will try to go back and respond to some other things. These may be pretty disconnected, as I'm not taking separate notes, just typing them here.I love Deli…Depressingly far behind, but trying to participate anyway. My questions:What does it mean for the Endless to be endless but never static? Change is a major theme in Sandman. What makes a brief life? …DRAT! I forgot to post on here, I was at Wondercon on Saturday. Some notes on the Orpheus story. I was obsessed with Greek mythology as a kid, and have known the story for as long as I can remember. It's one of my favorites. Two of my all-time favorite albums are inspired by the story.I am…Just finished reading this volume. Here are my initial thoughts:
I love the way Morpheus is drawn in this first story. He’s
elongated and inhuman, but not as cold. This is also one of my favorite quotes:
“Sometimes you wake up. Som…Oooh, I love the idea of Tilda Swinton as Desire. That could be really fun. And Anna Kendrick might make a fun Death, but I've never seen any of her serious work, so that's iffy for me.I just know that if there's a Sandman mov…Reo: I'll accept the amendation of "gift" to "agreement." Seems in line with the text. One thing I should note about the art, that just came to me. While the art in most of Game of You isn't my favorite, I LOVE how differently …I don't see the Cuckoo, or Barbie, being "pawns" for Morpheus. He was surprised the skerry was still there, and even more surprised that someone was using it. The continued existence of the skerry seems to have been a gift to an old love, not a game.I actually read "Ocean" while in line for Neil's LA book signing. My group was near the end, and he didn't get to us til 2:40am. (Still very kind and personable, even after 5 hours of signing.) Of the last 100 people in line, at least a dozen of us …Got two this morning. I deleted their "discussions." One of them: https://www.dropbox.com/s/daizev61326tnhy/Screenshot 2014-03-25 06.40.53.png<…Ok, FINALLY able to comment. This whole having-a-job thing is still throwing my rhythms out of whack. Here are some of my notes and comments:Interesting female archetypes. Barbie, the princess, the “little
lady.” Hazel…This was my main question for Game of You:(Not white-texting spoilers, since I'm posting this after the discussion on the volume has already started.) Barbie’s rich dreamworld is largely informed by
her childhood toy an…Kind of a random thought: has anyone else seen Akira Kurosawa's movie, "Dreams"? It's 8 15-minute dreams, that might (or might not) be the dreams of one man over a lifetime. There's the dream of a child, very random; the hallucination of a man dying…Totz: Well, he's younger than she is, but much much taller. So he's kind of both a big brother AND a little brother.
C.S. Lewis has a quote that may be germane:"Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybo…Although that nightmare was followed up the next night by a dream about an absolutely exquisite saxophone rendition of "Christmastime Is Here," so go figure...Nightmares are my default. I had a really bad one last week, but don't remember what it was now...
