  • Hi! I'm Sarah, a college professor from North Carolina. I'm joining
late, but trying to catch up. I read a couple of volumes of Sandman
years ago, and I'm excited to actually read the whole thing in order.
I'm also excited to read and discuss books for fun instead of for work.
  • Welcome Sarah!  Glad to have you!
  • I'm Mark.  I'm behind, partly because I was on the boat with Sus et al.  This is my second time through Sandman.  I took a break from comics in adolescence because novels gave me a lot more bang for the buck, and I came back to comics fairly recently; I'm now 43.  I'd read bits of Sandman, borrowed from friends, before buying and reading the entire series a few years ago.

    Hi everyone!
I'm Nova (aka Inky, aka Inkycats in the Twitter world). Like Bleu, I read part of the series oh-so-many years ago and have been dying for an excuse to reread. Marian posted, I was between books.... I think you know how these things go/what happened next.

In my offline time, I ... right, I don't really spend much time offline, as I work in community management in the game industry here in beautiful Seattle, WA. I was also extensively involved with GeekGirlCon.

Some of my many fandoms include Firefly, BSG, Doctor Who (and yes, I'm that one who made the Time Traveler video).

Still, belated as I am, here I am. Hi!
  • I wish I could thumbs-up or like these.  Instead I'll just tell you all that I like them. Thanks for being here.
  • Inkycats - I was extensively jealous of GeekGirlCon. Friends off to my west assured me it's every bit as awesome as it looked from afar. Nicely done!
  • I enjoy it when interests collide :-).  Ewan, currently in Albany NY by way of New Haven CT, Charlottesville VA and 20-odd years in the UK; neuroscientist.  I've been lucky enough to host both Marian and Neil Gaiman, although the latter only by proxy when he spoke at Bucknell; he reminded me of nothing more than the Heinlein description of Michael Smith as having the rare attribute of being *completely* focussed on the person to whom he was talking at any given moment.  Pretty neat.

Anyway: Sandman's basically the only comic I ever got into.  Read them the first time around and now have the very pretty Absolute editions all lined up.  Highly curious as to what it is about this series that poked at Marian's psyche to prompt this party!

Ewan, I'm curious too!  I feel as if I am learning SO much (and having bizarre dreams) but a lot of it seems to be through osmosis.  I'm all right with that.  Learning an interesting fact or turning an analytical corner often does less for me than just steeping in some really good art and taking away from it things I can't describe.

Hi all! I'm Michel, from Jakarta, Indonesia; a sysadmin manager by day, voyeur of esoteric geeky interests by night. Discovered Marian's music through Bad Astronomer Phil Plait's enthusiastic plugs, and seeing as I've been a Gaiman fan ever since I was gifted American Gods, and regrettably I have only read Coraline and Good Omens since.

Seeing as I've always wanted to read Sandman, I figured it'd be an even more enjoyable experience to share the experience with you guys ... though typical of me I only discovered this excellent book club halfway into the reading schedule! (I've somehow gotten it into my mind to attend book club meetings for the past month or so, funny that -- must be some quantum non-locality of the part of my brain that's attuned to the goings-on on this site!)
  • People are still commenting about the earlier volumes as well as the "current" one. I don't know if there's any such thing as "late." The reading schedule seems to be more of a suggestion than a requirement. Just don't look at the comments ahead of where you've read to avoid spoilers.
  • Heta all, I'm Nate, currently of San Diego. I'm fairly new to Sandman having only picked up the first volume a few months back when Amazon had it on sale and only because quite a few of my Twitter friends rave about the thing. :P

This is also my first attempt at bookclubbing and I'm failing fantastically at it, only being a smidge into Vol 3 while the rest of you are up to, what, 8 now I think? *facepalm*

    Cheers!
  • No worries, Nate! Keep reading when you have the time. Tons of folks are behind by now.  But daaaaamn it's worth it.
  • Hi, Unmagical! I am three volumes behind because of ~life, but the conversationas are all still open, so let's keep going!
  • We have new folks joining still, so just jump in the discussions anywhere. I'll read any new comments I see, and I know some other folks will as well!
