2014 is the 25th anniversary of The Sandman. There will be events and activities throughout the year to celebrate this milestone. Post anything that pertains to these here.

  • Vertigo comics is publishing a 6 part series The Sandman: Overture. Its events occur before "Preludes and Nocturnes" and explain how Morpheus was able to be captured. It is written by Neil Gaiman and drawn by J.H. Williams III. Issue 1 (as well as a Special Edition of issue 1) has been released. Issue 2 has been delayed until late March due to Neil falling behind from his "The Ocean at the End of the Lane" signing tour (his last signing tour). The story so far is great and the art is amazing. I highly recommend it.
  • The Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco has an exhibit of original art from The Sandman that runs through April 27, 2014 (extended - was to end March 16) titled "Grains of Sand: 25 Years of The Sandman". This is one of the only times to see this art in one place.

J.H. Williams III will speak at the exhibit and share original art from The Sandman: Overture at the exhibit on March 15.

An exhibition Catalog is available to pre-purchase. The "Season of Mist" version includes 3 signed nameplates by Dave McKean/Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg, and J.H. Williams III. The versions with the higher shipping cost are for sending outside the US.

  • I just heard from Dave McKean that at the end of 2014 he will be releasing a new version of his Dustcovers book that has all of The Sandman covers with a new cover as well as a new book called Dream States that will collect all of his covers from Dreaming, Sandman Presents, Sandman: Overture + others. I will post details when they are released.
